Isabelle D.
Using solely handcrafting techniques such as weaving, netting and crocheting, Isabelle D. (b. 1966) creates a link between real and imagined landscapes through bright and abstracted coral-like shapes, introducing vibrant life and complex new meanings to her surroundings. Rather than presenting a factual reality, she fabricates illusions that entice imagination and subconscious activity. Her work is often autobiographical, as she relives her past and the women who have inspired her through a traditionally feminine form of manual work, celebrating both her personal memories and French-Algerian heritage.
