The Renaissance Society

Vase, 1998, by Arturo Herrera

Arturo Herrera (b. 1959, Caracas) is an internationally recognized artist whose wide-ranging work is rooted in the practice of collage, which he explores through works on paper, sculpture, relief, wall painting, photography, and wall hangings. He creates colorful abstract paintings and interventions using strategies of fragmentation, layering, and cut-outs, mining our psychological relationship to narrative by recombining figurative and spatial elements to produce enigmatic associations.

Herrera had a solo exhibition at The Renaissance Society in 1998. Other institutions that have exhibited and collected him include MoMA, the Whitney Museum, Castello di Rivoli, Tate, and Museo Reina Sofía, among many others.
